Vocational Skills Transfer Program

Each year, Impact For Peace recruits students from the University of Hong Kong to join the Vocational Skills Transfer Program. They will be sent to Kolkata, India or Future Village, Nepal for at least one month to conduct the program. Impact For Peace has established a co-operation with a local NGO in India named  Forum of Communities United in Service (FOCUS) and also local NGO in Nepal named Future Village. During these service trips in both India and Nepal, students will be teaching in the women centers and children centers operated by FOCUS or Future Village.
Objective

"授之以魚, 僅供一飯之需; 授之以漁, 則終生受用"- <老子>
As the old saying goes, if we treat a man fishes, he would only be benefited by a meal; however, if we teach him how to fish, he will be benefited in a life-time. We strongly believe that enriching people's knowledge is key to change their fate.

Growing Through Serving

We believe that traveling widens our horizon; experience teaches  something which books do not teach and serving leads us to look beyond ourselves. The Vocational Skills Transfer Program is not only for solving poverty, but also helping our participants to grow through serving others. Through service trips to India and Nepal, we hope that they could learn something they did not know and see something  they did not see before.

Led by Participants

The Vocational Skills Transfer Program has been lasted for six years in India and in Nepal. Successful applicants will be divided into two groups. Participants can make use of their previous experiences and professional knowledge to decide what they are going to do in Nepal. Our executive committee and the staff of Future Village would provide suitable guidance. Through this mechanism, participants could develop a deeper understanding in the limitations and difficulties in organizing volunteering projects.

Continuous involvement

After the service trip, there are many occasions which participants can share their experiences in Nepal to students from different universities. The sharing sessions allow them to make a  reflection of what they have learnt from the trip in Nepal.

They are also highly encouraged to become our executive member and take part in the organization of next year Vocational Skills Transfer Program. We hope the Program could provide a platform for participants to involve in volunteering continuously.
