Vocational Skills Transfer Program 2013

In June 2013, the team of 9 selected volunteers went to India for a month-long service project. First, we went to Kolkata to meet up our previous collaborating NGO in understanding what our precedents have worked in the past year. Afterwards, we went to the Meerut City, a remote city 80 km from New Delhi, the country's current capital. It was the main focus of our project. We set up a temporary teaching centre at the roadside. We taught Indian children and women basic English and handicraft skills respectively on a daily basis for three weeks. In the three weeks, we encountered frustrations when the participants were indifferent and satifaction when they even internalized some useful skills and knowledge. This was definitely an unforgettable volunteering trip to all of us!

Here's what our volunteers say...

Major:  BA (Class of 2014)

The invaluable experience that I gained from volunteering and working with my counterparts at Impact for Peace is one of the most unforgettable memories in my life. What constitute such prominence stem from the hardships that my colleagues and I encountered and undergone with strong determination and audacity. During the service trip, we built intimate bondage and good friendships with each other. We shared our feelings, reflections and skepticisms of what we encountered in volunteer works and unjust social conditions. My experience of joining Impact for Peace had partially shaped the way I understand fellow beings and the world. An understanding that takes it place beyond the mere acquisition of knowledge.
