Our Nepal Empowerment Project 2017 took us back in collaboration with Future Village this year. We worked hard to do what was within our power to empower children and women in the village of Katange, Dhading through various efforts. Here's a short summary of our programs:

Morning Tutorials

At the break of dawn, children in the neighbouring villages crowd to Future Village for short our one-hour English tutorial session. Our students were divided into two smaller groups according to their age. We delivered English lessons with flashcards, games, rhymes and songs to make language-learning more interactive and engaging. The kids enjoyed the tutorial sessions and the sense of satisfaction we had in seeing them improve and persist in returning every day diligently was immense.

School Teaching

After our morning tutorials, we would trek down to a nearby primary school to teach English. We tailor-made teaching materials, designed fun classroom activities and introduced phonics and other essential skills beneficial for language learning. With each day, our students surprised us with great progress and growth; it was truly gratifying.

Women Workshops

Having observed a lack of understanding about contraception, first aid, and personal hygiene, we organized workshops for women to help them gain more knowledge in these areas. In these workshops, we covered basic first aid skills, stretches and massage techniques for pain relief in muscles, key information about sexually transmitted diseases and contraception, etc. In addition to informative sessions, we included some craft-making in our workshops as well in order to equip them with a new set of skills that could help them gain a means of making a living.

Home Visits

We paid visits to as many households as we could in the village to give out hygiene kits including toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and other sanitary items. During our visits, we got a chance to chat with the locals and gain a deeper and more thorough understanding of life in the village and the difficulties they encounter. But most importantly, we forged strong bonds with the villagers and came to call them our family too!
